Society Spotlight – Exeposé

If you’re interested in journalism, media, or simply sharing your voice on campus, Exeposé is one of the most active and accessible societies at the University of Exeter. As the university’s official independent student newspaper, Exeposé offers students the chance to get involved in real journalism, without needing prior experience. As Online Editor-in-Chief, I want to share the amazing opportunities this society has offered me and could offer students.

Founded in 1987, Exeposé covers everything from campus news and student politics to culture, lifestyle, sport, and investigations. What makes it stand out is its openness - writers, editors and social media contributors are always welcome, whether you want to commit weekly or just submit the occasional piece. Exeposé is also not just a printed paper, they have a fabulous website, and social media presence – this includes TikTok and a podcast.

One of Exeposé’s biggest strengths is its section system. Students can write for areas such as News, Comment, Arts & Lit, Lifestyle, and Sport, allowing contributors to focus on what genuinely interests them. This makes it an ideal society for both aspiring journalists and students who simply enjoy writing or exploring ideas outside their degree.

Beyond writing, Exeposé provides practical experience that’s increasingly valuable in a competitive job market. Contributors can progress and learn how to pitch articles, meet deadlines, edit pages, conduct interviews, and work as part of an editorial team. For those interested in careers in journalism, media, communications, or publishing, this hands-on experience is a major advantage.

The society is also highly social. Regular socials, meetings, and proofing days create a strong sense of community, making it easy to meet like-minded students from different courses and year groups. Many members say Exeposé helped them feel more connected to campus life especially in their first year.

Importantly, Exeposé isn’t just about building CVs. It plays a key role in student representation, reporting on issues that affect Exeter students and providing a platform for opinion, debate, and accountability. Whether it’s covering Guild elections, accommodation issues, or wider student concerns, the paper helps ensure student voices are heard.

If you’re curious, creative, or just want to try something new, Exeposé is a society where you can genuinely make an impact, one article at a time.
