Why we’re supporting the ‘Exeter is for Everyone’ Event on 25 October

Dear Students,

On Saturday 25 October, a group known as the British Unity Walk is planning a peaceful march through Exeter. We know many students, particularly those from international and marginalised backgrounds, may feel unsettled, unsafe or unwelcome as a result.

Exeter is your home, and no matter your background, identity or country of origin – you deserve to feel safe, supported and like you belong.

That’s why we’re supporting the ‘Exeter for Everyone’ event hosted by Stand Up To Racism Exeter on Saturday 25 October.

Why are we, your Officers, attending?

We care deeply about protecting and amplifying the voices of all students. Our role isn’t just about policy and meetings; it's about standing alongside you to amplify your voice.

We have a responsibility and passion for the interests and welfare of all students, and to challenge harm where it exists. Attending this event is one way we live out our values, radical inclusivity, empowerment, and collaboration, not just in words, but through action.

How can you get involved?

We have a long history of supporting student activism – it’s part of who we are. Peaceful protest is a human right, and as your Students’ Guild, we’re here to support you to use your voice to campaign for change and stand up for what you believe in.

If you’d like to attend the ‘Exeter is for Everyone’ event, you are very welcome to do so. Check out resources below to help you protest safely and confidently:

Need support?

We understand that this may be a difficult or distressing time. If you’re feeling anxious, unsafe or simply need someone to talk to, our Advice Team is here for you. You can also access further wellbeing support via Support and Report or University Wellbeing Services.

This is your Guild, your University, your city. We stand with you. Together, we can show that Exeter is, and always should be, for everyone.
