I'm Olivia Williams, a master's student and I created the Chronic Health Peer Support Group at the University of Exeter.
Chronic Health Peer Support Group
Any time we hold the weekly peer support sessions, when students come in and they start really opening up – that is when I feel so proud of everything that we’ve done. It's really giving students that space that they wanted to have to express how they are feeling and feel less alone.
Having a chronic health condition, especially at university can be incredible isolating. The reason the group is so important is because it can combat that to an extent and it can introduce diff student with different health issues to each other and make them feel less alone which is so important.
Just how many people at the uni have chronic health issues, and how much engagement there has been in the group and how people have come back and said this has been really helpful.
Go for it! Ithere is anything you want to do; the worst thing is that it won’t happen. 9time out of 10 you’ll be able to do it. There is a lot of support around theuni and there are a lot of people who can help you achieve what you want to do,so definitely just go for it.
